Footnote Award
The Footnote Award is presented each year to a Library volunteer who shows extraordinary effort on behalf of the residents of Greendale and the Greendale Public Library. Below is a list of the Footnote Awards winners. Click on their names to learn more about these fantastic volunteers.
NOEL COOLEY
Whereas, Noel Cooley represents the best qualities of a volunteer;
Whereas, Noel has shown a dedication to the library through his consistent loyalty and faithful attendance;
Whereas, Noel worked many years as a volunteer in the area of technical processing including processing book orders and checking in the delivery;
Whereas, Noel has told countless stories to the youth of Greendale incorporating sign language into the experience and has modeled the importance of reading during special events like the Summer Reading Lunch Bunch and the Teen Reading Rampage;
Whereas, Noel has served faithfully on the Greendale Public Library Foundation, Inc., Board of Directors and lent his leadership to special events like Dickens of a Christmas and the Foundation Wine Tasting night;
Whereas, Noel has served faithfully on the Greendale Public Library Board of Trustees since 2002;
Whereas, Noel’s sense of humor allows him to communicate his love of the library with users of all ages;
Whereas, Noel’s commitment to the Library remains endless.
Now, Therefore, Be It Hereby Resolved
that the staff of the Greendale Public Library expresses our deepest appreciation to
Noel Cooley for his years of service to the Greendale Public Library;
Furthermore, Be It Hereby Resolved
that Noel Cooley be recognized as the sixth recipient of The Footnote Award in recognition of his work as a volunteer at the Greendale Public Library.

DARLENE CASWELL
Whereas, Darlene Caswell represents the best qualities of a volunteer;
Whereas, Darlene has shown a dedication to the library through her consistent loyalty and faithful attendance;
Whereas, Darlene has successfully processed thousands of holds while checking in our daily delivery thus insuring that our
customers find their requests on the reserve shelf in a timely fashion;
Whereas, Darlene has verified the information on and filed the library card registration forms for thousands of Library customers;
Whereas, Darlene has faithfully maintained the green environment of the Library by caring for our plants;
Whereas, Darlene’s commitment to the Library remains endless.
Now, Therefore, Be It Hereby Resolved that the staff of the Greendale Public Library express our deepest appreciation to
Darlene Caswell for her years of service to the Greendale Public Library;
Furthermore, Be It Hereby Resolved that Darlene Caswell be recognized as the fifth recipient of The Footnote Award in recognition of her work as a volunteer at the Greendale Public Library.

Whereas, Louise has shelved thousands of CDs, DVDs, and Videocassettes so that our customers can have hours of listening and viewing pleasure;
Whereas, Louise has unpacked and sorted thousands of library materials from the library delivery so that our customers can receive their material in a timely manner;
Whereas, Louise has unpacked and processed thousands of library materials from the vendors so that our new materials reach the customers in a timely manner;
Whereas, Louise has helped train many of her fellow volunteers acting as coach, mentor, companion and friend;
Whereas, Louise’s commitment to the Library remains endless.

Whereas, LaVerne Decker represents the best qualities of a volunteer;
Whereas, LaVerne has shown a dedication to the library through her consistent loyalty and faithful attendance;
Whereas, LaVerne has carefully outlined, cut and glued countless animals and objects of all shapes and sizes for the pleasure of those who attend our storytimes and summer reading programs;
Whereas, LaVerne has sharpened endless numbers of pencils so our customers’ thoughts can be sharp;
Whereas, LaVerne has organized our counters, shelves and drawers so that everyone can always find the supplies and crafting materials;
Whereas, LaVerne has helped train many of her fellow volunteers acting as coach, mentor, companion and friend;
Whereas, LaVerne has shared with us her boundless energy and spirit;
Whereas, LaVerne’s commitment to the Library remains endless.

EMILY "LEE" SCHMELING
The Greendale Public Library Foundation, Incorporated, and The Friends of the Greendale Public Library
Resolution
Whereas, Emily Schmeling, affectionally known to all her friends at the Greendale Public Library as “Lee,” represents the best qualities of a volunteer;
Whereas, Lee has served the Library as our volunteer Volunteer Co-coordinator;
Whereas, Lee has shelf read every fiction section hundreds of times in her volunteer career and knows all the order of all the books by heart, including the color of their covers;
Whereas, Lee has straightened the magazine collection to the point where customers come to our library because the magazines are so well organized;
Whereas, Lee has nursed the plant life within the library so there is a homey touch to the building;
Whereas, “Grandma Lee” has endeared herself to hundreds of children by preparing many thousands of duck bills, rabbit ears and turkey tails and helping with our library story times;
Whereas, her commitment to the Library remains endless.
Now, Therefore, Be it Hereby Resolved that The Greendale Public Library Foundation, Incorporated, The Friends of the Greendale Public Library, and the staff of the Greendale Public Library express our deepest appreciation to Emily Schmeling for her years of service to the Greendale Public Library;
